Center for Youth and Young Adults in NE Philly

The Homework Help Center

The Homework Help Center, for youth in grades 6-12,  is a place where students can come for one on one homework help, to use our internet and printer ready computers, or to have a quiet and safe space to work on their homework on their own or with their friends.  Staffed by volunteers, the center is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 2:30-9 pm. No appointment is necessary, though if you need help with a specific subject, we encourage you to call ahead of time so we can be sure to have a volunteer who can assist you.   The Homework Help Center is FREE of charge and open to all youth without discrimination.  Click here for more information.

Drop-In Center:

The Drop-In Center is a place for youth who are done their schoolwork to come and hang out after school and in the evenings that is laid-back, safe, and supervised.  We have video and board games, movies and music, and a comfy place to just sit and talk with friends and Turning Point Volunteers.  The Drop-In Center is an unstructured program that gives youth a place where they are welcome and where they can be with their friends in a safe, fun, and pressure-free environment.  It is open Tuesday, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 2:30-9 pm (before 6 pm are ‘quiet hours’ so that other youth at the Center can focus on their school work), is free, and is for youth in grades 6 and up and young adults.  Click here for more information.

The Hoffman Art Program:

We offer on-going small group art and music classes for all 6-12th grade youth through the Hoffman Art Program.  Taught by volunteers and offered free of charge, these five to eight week sessions are group classes where youth study subjects such as guitar, drawing, painting, music theory, photography, drama etc. (Classes offered will vary based on volunteer availability).  Youth need to register for these classes, so check back often for new details and registration forms.  Click here for current classes and registration information.

Service Opportunities:

Serving others and giving back to our community is a core value of Turning Point, and as such we provide opportunities for youth and young adults to engage in various Service Opportunities.  On Service Saturdays, generally the 3rd Saturday of each month, youth gather for various projects that benefit others in our neighborhood, such as cooking meals for seniors, raking leaves, making care packages for the homeless, etc.  Information and registration forms are posted in the Center and on our website as events are scheduled, so be sure to check back often for updated information.  Click here for more information on upcoming service events.

The Weekend Program:

Join us on the weekends at Turning Point for various activities that change each month.  From movie and discussion nights on the first Friday of each month to Service Saturdays, from game nights to field trips, from Bible Studies to hands on activities, there is something for everyone!  Weekend activities will be posted on our website, and may require preregistration.  Events are free and open to all youth in 6-12th grade.  Click here for upcoming activities and registration information.
